Two mini-ITX AM2 boards to start with

Although Sapphire has been doing motherboard for a while no, some of its own design, others based on reference designs from AMD and some models bought in from other vendors, it now seems like the company is ready to take on the IPC or Industrial PC market with a pair of mini-ITX boards.

First up is the IPC-AM2DD690G which is built on a blue PCB and as the name suggests, uses the AMD 690G chipset. It has HDMI output, a D-sub connector, four USB 2.0 ports, 10/100Mbit Ethernet, two PS/2 ports and three audio jacks around the back. It only works with AM2 processors (max 65W TDP) which seems a little bit limiting, unless the information we've had is wrong, as we'd expect it to work with AM2+ processors as well. Other features include a single DIMM slot, a PCI slot, two SATA connectors, an IDE and floppy connector, headers for four extra USB 2.0 ports and a TV-out header.

The second board is the ICP-AM2SO690E which is oddly enough based on the AMD 690E chipset. This board has a single PS/2 port, six USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, a D-sub, Gigabit Ethernet, three audio jacks and two serial ports around the back. It also has a pair of SO-DIMM memory slots, a PCI slot, two SATA connectors, an IDE connector, two headers for four additional USB 2.0 ports, an S/PDFI out header and a few more IPC like features such as LVDS, power for an LCD backlight inverter, a DOM power connector and even a good old fashioned IrDA header.

Sapphire also informed us that they should have 780G based products ready for Computex and we hope that they might manage to squeeze in a more consumer orientated board by then as well. We don't have pricing for either model, but as far as we know, both boards are available as of now.
