Bit-tech reports that Asus is set to refresh their RoG (Republic of Gamer) offer with the new “Gene” series. These are however, the first RoG motherboards to use the mATX form factor.

The first one should be the Rampage II Gene, aimed at LAN gamers and extreme overclockers. It comes with SLI and CrossFire support, two PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, one open-ended x4 slot and one PCI 2.2 slot. It will feature six DIMMs, software X-Fi from ADI and it will retain RoG features such as TweakIt, which will make it easier for overclockers to do their thing.

The rest of the features are supposedly quite similar to the Rampage II Extreme, but some design changes are expected. Since this is a Core i7 board coming from Asus’ crème of the crop RoG series, don’t expect it to be cheap, but overclockers and enthusiasts might not care as they know the golden rule – no pay, no play.

You can read more here where you’ll also find a photo of the Rampage II Gene.
