Looks Nvidia inspired

Somewhat unexpectedly, XFX has announced its own X58 motherboard and it's simply called X58i. Although at first glance you might be mistaken for thinking this is the same as the EVGA board, but it's not. We don't know who designed and manufactured the XFX board as in the past, XFX has used Nvidia reference designs for its Nvidia chipset motherboards.

Feature-wise, it looks like a pretty decent board, but the X58i doesn't have any real stand-out features. It has six memory slots for up to 12GB of memory, three x16 PCIe slots, although one of them seems to offer no more than x8 bandwidth, and we're not sure if XFX has implemented some kind of lane switch or not.

Around the back you'll find a PS/2 port, six USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, 7.1-channel audio with optical and coaxial S/PDIF out and a CMOS reset button. The board also has six SATA connectors, three headers for six additional USB 2.0 ports, a debug LED and dual BIOS. The chipset is cooled by a fairly basic heatpipe cooling solution.

All in all, a decent board, although as we don't have a price or availability date as yet, it's too early to say how big of a chance XFX has in the already crowded X58 market.

The board hasn't appeared on XFX's Website as yet, but you can find their Website here
