DFI working on Lanparty X58 board

Not quite finished yet

TweakTown has scored some pictures of DFI's X58 board, which will be part of the Lanparty UT series of boards, and although it seems like it still needs some additional work, it looks like the digital PWMs that DFI is using are finally paying off and are saving some real board space.

One of the issues with X58 boards is the larger area around the CPU that need to be kept clear and the space the two extra DIMM slots take up and with some companies going for 12 or 16-phase PWMs the boards are getting quite crowded. The Lanparty UT X58 looks a lot less crowded, thanks to the digital PWM design and DFI should be able to design a slightly simpler heatsink.

DFI has gone with three x16 PCIe 2.0 slots, a single x4 slot and two PCI slots. The board looks very spartan when it comes to ports, as DFI has only used the minimum amount of ports as on most of its Lanparty products, so you'll only get two PS/2 ports, six USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire port and a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports around the back. The board also has eight SATA ports, an IDE connector, headers for an additional six USB 2.0 ports, a header for an additional FireWire port, an audio connector for DFI's audio riser, a power and reset button as well as a debug LED display.

According to TweakTown, the board also features a special header that will allow you to program the BIOS, although we're not sure how this is meant to work in praxis. DFI might also be supplying some kind of eSATA solution that connects to the internal SATA ports.

DFI is not expecting to sell the board ,as it will be priced over US$300, but that doesn't sound too bad compared to the board pricing we've seen from Asus so far, although with no final pricing details, we have a feeling that it might end up costing a bit more, at least initially.

You can find loads of pictures of the board here.
