Retail version this time around

More and more X58 boards seems to be getting ready for the big launch, which is expected to be sometime early next month, despite some online e-tailers listing products as available from the last day of this month.

We've already seen pictures of the Asus Rampage II Extreme, kudos to Muropaketti, but these new pictures shows the board in its final retail glory, although we're still wondering if it's not missing one accessory in the pictures. What we're talking about is something to connect to all those Voltage read-out points at the front of the board next to the Vtune buttons.

The chipset cooling looks like it has evolved from the Rampage Extreme and Asus is now using an even bigger square metal slate to cover the ICH, but Asus has removed the pre-fitted waterblock in favor of a removable heatsink on top of the heatpipes. It looks like Asus has decided that you have to use one or the other and we presume there's a waterblock somewhere in the box.

Judging by the current pricing for X58 pre-orders, we think Muropaketti was pretty spot on with its €400 price estimation and we're guessing this board might actually be even more expensive than that, at least initially. It's scary to see motherboards this expensive, as it only used to be a handful of Nvidia-based boards that were coming in at silly prices, but now it seems like Intel boards will be topping the price ladder once again.

You can find the pictures here.
