Comes in Q2 2009

AMD plans two chipsets for Q2 2009, one called RD890 GDDR3, while the IGP chipset is codenamed RS880. This chipset will use SB800 and it is set to replace 780G+SB750 chipset.

The new chipset supports both AM2+ and AM3 sockets and it naturally brings a new improved IGP core. Judging from the previous development this might imply that AMD plans to use a RV710 chipset-derived core for a new chipset, but this is something that we cannot confirm at press time.

At the same time, AMD and the rest of the world expect that the DDR3 prices will go down and that this memory will become more mainstream, which will definitely help the chipset adoption; but we still don’t see much sense in a DDR2 to DDR3 migration.
