DDR3, as expected

Our friends over at ChileHardware have scored AMD's motherboard chipset roadmap up until Q2 2009 and it doesn't hold any real surprises, as it adds DDR3 as expected. The only update for this year seems to be that the 780G chipset will be paired up with the SB750 sometime in late Q3.

Come Q1 of next year, you're looking at a version of the 790FX with DDR3 support, as this chipset shares the RD790 codename with the 790FX. AMD will continue to use the SB750, as well.

Moving into Q2 there are a couple of more interesting chipset developments with the RD890 with DDR3 support and the new SB800 Southbridge. The next generation IGP part is expected to be the RS880, also with DDR3 support and the SB800.

There aren't any details of what these new chipsets will offer apart from DDR3 support, although the RS880 will, of course, have a new more powerful graphics core. This might also be one of the last chipsets with integrated graphics from AMD, as the company is moving the graphics into the CPU at some stage in 2009 or 2010.

You can find the roadmap picture here.
