DDR2/DDR3 chipset for the future

AMD's soon-to-launch RS780D chipset, the one that will get branded as AMD 790GX, will also be quite ready for the future. The new and improved IGP board includes RS780D chipset with SB750 Southbridge, but the roadmap we've seen actually claims that the same chipset will be able to cope with future SB800 Southbridge.

Even more surprising is the fact that the document we’ve seen claims that RS780D will be able to support future socket AM3 and DDR3 memory. Let’s not forget that RS780D or AMD 790GX actually has an integrated graphic inside.

RS780D has an IGP that supports DirectX 10 and you should be fine with it even in 2009. This kind of makes sense, as the memory controller will be inside of the CPU and AMD’s chipset doesn’t have much to do with memory controller and AMD tends to make most of its chipsets pin compatible.
