bit-tech has the goods

bit-tech has scored a Maximus II Formula motherboard from Asus and they've taken a lot of pictures of the board and talk in detail about the new features of this super expensive P45 based R.O.G. board from Asus.

The most interesting feature is the new SupremeFX module with X-Fi support and bit-tech has explained what's going on. The new SupremeFX sound card doesn't actually use any Creative hardware at all, instead it's using the new SoundMAX A2000BX from ADI which can do X-Fi in software. This is why its limited to EAX 4.0 rather than EAX 5.0.

This might mean that we'll see more motherboard with EAX 4.0 support in the future, although as bit-tech also got their hand on a P5Q3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n motherboard from Asus which features the same audio codec, but yet lacked the support for EAX 4.0 in the drives, one has to wonder what's going on.

You can have a look at what bit-tech thinks about the two boards here, although they haven't run any benchmarks on either board as yet.
