Up to 96% power efficiency

We're all for saving power and helping the enviroment here at Fudzilla, but we have to question the latest claims from Asus about its EPU, as the company seems to be making bolder and bolder claims about how much power you can save and how efficient the EPU is.

The latest press release claims 96 percent power efficiency, although it doesn't say on what and Asus doesn't provide any scientific figures or even any simple measurements on how they've come up with this figure.

Furthermore, Asus ridiculed Gigabyte's DES for using software, but it seems like Asus has some software of their own that you need to use to achieve this magical 96 percent power saving, called AI Gear3+. Otherwise, you won't see the full benefit of the EPU from what we gather from the press release.

The software also allows you to see how much electricity you have saved as well how much CO2 you have prevented from letting out into the atmosphere, although if your power comes from a nuclear power plant, hydro power, wind power or any other non CO2 source, then this might be a tad moot.

Let's hope Asus comes up with some real evidence on how they calculate these figures, as frankly, we don't trust them. It's great that you can do your bit and help save some power by using a motherboard that allows your PC to draw less power, but when the marketing hype goes too far, then it's time to ask for hard facts.
