Value board with Crossfire

Abit has announced a new motherboard with support for AMD socket AM2+/AM2 processors based on the AMD 770 chipset, branded AX78. The special thing about this motherboard is that it supports Crossfire.

Abit has included two PCI-Express x16 slots, thus making it Crossfire ready. Unfortunately, this is the same Crossfire implementation which has been seen on the P35 chipset where the second slot is limited to x4 bandwidth. Aside from the two PCI-Express x16 slots, this motherboard also comes with one PCI-Express x1 slot and three plain PCI slots.

Abit's new motherboard comes passively cooled and features Gigabit LAN, 8-channel audio, rear CMOS clear switch, ten USB 2.0 ports, four SATA, single IDE and floppy connector. It also has four memory slots with support for DDR2 1066 and maximum capacity of 8GB. Abit has stated that this motherboard uses 4 phase PWM, which is not that great for overclocking, but you can't expect high-end PWM on a value priced motherboard.

The release date and the price of this motherboard have not yet been announced.
