At its previously announced event in New Delhi, India, Xiaomi has unveiled its latest dual-camera smartphone, the Android One-powered Xiaomi Mi A1.

Based on the same hardware as the Xiaomi Mi 5X, the new Mi A1 features a 5.5-inch LCD 1920x1080 resolution screen and uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 SoC with eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores and Adreno 506 GPU, backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

As teased earlier, the Xiaomi Mi A1 uses a dual-camera setup, similar to the Mi 6, with two 12-megapixel 1.25µm/1.0 µm sensors placed behind f/2.2 and f/2.6 lenses. The main camera has phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom, and dual-LED flash. The front camera got a 5-megapixel sensor.

As noted, the rest of the specifications are identical to the Xiaomi Mi 5X since the phone uses exactly the same design, including 155.4x75.8x7.3mm dimensions and 165g weight, 802.11ac dual-band WiFi, USB Type-C connector, rear fingerprint reader and non-removable 3080mAh battery.

What makes the Xiaomi Mi A1 special is the fact that it comes with Android One, or simply, stock Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS. This means that it does not come with MIUI 9 UI, although Xiaomi had to keep the MIUI camera app. Xiaomi was quite keen to note that the Mi A1 will be getting Android Oreo update by the end of this year and it will be one of the first smartphones to get the Android P when it comes next year.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is available in Black, Gold and Pink color options and is priced at INR14,999 (around US $234/€196) and should be available all around the world as of September 12.
