Viv might not make it to the Samsung S8

Will not hack off Google

The dark satanic rumour mill has manufactured a hell on earth yarn claiming that Samsung will not be installing its Viv, AI assistant in the S8 because it does not want to hack off Google.

After Samsung purchased the powerful virtual assistant Viv it was an obvious candidate for the S8 because it could clean the clock of any AI assistant out there.

However there is a problem with the small print in Samsung's 2014 patent sharing settlement with Google which could stop this happening.

According to Edison Investment Research analyst Richard Windsor,  that effort by Samsung is bound by an agreement not to offer any services that compete with Google's own.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge are both heavily rumoured to launch in the first three months of next year and come with Android 7 Nougat software and have Google’s Assistant instead. The new assistant is not bad and certainly better than Siri, but it creates the question why did Samsung buy Viv if it is too worried about upsetting Google to use it.

Samsung will still use the Viv assistant on Tizen devices and upcoming wearables but not its flagship phones. It would be a bit ironic if the Tizen flavours of its smartphones were actually better than those which were googlish.
