Super-slim Zenphone Zoom nearly ready

by on02 December 2015

Fast becoming the Duke-Nukem of phones

The superslim “Duke Nukem” of Asus, the Asus Zenfone Zoom might be going on sale in three weeks – in Taiwan.

The "thinnest phone with 3x optical zoom" was announced almost a full year ago and it seemed everyone wanted one. It was based on the Zenfone 2 But it has the 3x optical zoom.

Asus managed it with a Hoya-made zoom mechanism that extends the lens inside the phone, rather than sticking them out the back. The impressive camera features optical image stabilisation and laser autofocus.

The image sensor has 13MP resolution and can record 1080p video. The rest of the spec is based around the Intel Atom Z3580 or Z3590 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB storage.
Yet for some reason Asus never shipped it.

Now it is finally appearing in Taiwan's five major carriers in mid-December in Black and White, soon after in Pink too. It is not clear if Asus will send it to other parts of the world.
The Z3580/64GB version costs $430, while the Z3590/128GB version will be $490.
