PwC: Wearable health trackers are not ready yet

by on22 October 2014

Inconsistent and unreliable data

Wearable health trackers may not be all they are trumped up to be, according to a new report from PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

PwC found that consumers could embrace wearable health devices, but it remains unclear whether they should. Researchers found that much of the information gathered by wearable devices is unreliable or inconsistent. In addition, wearables also have a nasty habit of invading one's privacy.

Despite these teething problems, more than 80 of respondents in the survey said they found the devices convenient. Most said they were willing to try wearables if they were endorsed by their doctor.

The report also found that interest in the Apple Watch is waning and consumer chatter about the device has dropped off since Apple announced it last month. However, consumer buzz about the Moto 360 and Samsung Gear watches has gone up, reports SF Gate.
