CEO Dennis Woodside confirmed speculation the once-dominant mobile maker intends to make a comeback under its new owners Google. Motorola was bought for $12.5 billion in 2012 and many thought that it had been written off. Google seemed to be only interested in the company patents.

The new phone, called the Moto X, will be built at a 500,000 square-feet facility in Texas that will employ 2,000 people. The outfit is expected to start shipping the Moto X in autumn. Woodside said the Moto X would benefit from Motorola's expertise in managing ultra-low power sensors, such as in accelerometers and gyroscopes.

Motorola's claims to have come up with processors that will help save power.
