Over 300 million smart devices shipped in Q1 2013

Over 59 percent on Android OHA platform

Shipments of smart mobile devices have soared in Q1 2013, reaching a receord of 308.7 million units, a growth of 37.4 percent compared to the same quarter last year, according to the latest report by Canalys.

Samsung is leading the pack with 82.1 million devices, or 26.6 percent of the market, followed by Apple which shipped 59.5 million for a 19.3 percent market share. As expected, Google's Open Handset Alliance, or simply Android, is on 183.7 million of those devices, or 59.5 percent. The next in line are Apple with 59.5 million or 19.3 percent and Microsoft with 55.8 million devices or 18.1 percent.

Most of those 308.7 million devices are tablets which 41.9 million devices or an annual increas of 106.1 percent. In the smartphone market, Android is on 75.6 percent devices and main culprit is Samsung which managed to get 64.3 percent growth compared to the same quarter last year.

Android's rule has taken its toll on notebook PC shipments which, according to Canalys, dropped by 13.1 percent when compared to the last year.
