Nokia's flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone

Yesterday Nokia rolled out on its new Windows Phone 8 smartphone line, including the new flagship Nokia Lumia 920. As it was already rumored earlier, the Lumia 920 features wireless charging, PureView camera technology and runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 CPU, all squeezed behind a 4.5-inch curved glass screen with some impressive new technologies.

Nokia Lumia 920, or the most innovative smartphone in the world as Nokia likes to call it, has a 1280x768 4.5-inch IPS LCD screen placed behind a curved Gorilla Glass protection screen. The screen is anything but plain as it features high refresh rates, Pure Motion HD+ tech that automatically adjusts the brightness, color tone and contrast, as well as Super Sensitive Touch technology, a technology coming from Synaptics. It gives the screen a whole new level of sensitivity that actually reads touch even when you are wearing gloves.

Specs wise, it features Qualcomm's 1.5GHz clocked dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU, 1GB of RAM memory, 32GB of flash storage, 2,000mAh battery and, of course, runs on Windows Phone 8 OS. Unfortunately, it lacks a microSD card slot so it is stuck with 32GB of internal storage and 7GB of SkyDrive cloud storage. Nokia opted for a unibody design measuring 130.3x70.8x10.7mm and it looks good, although at 185 grams it is certainly one of the heaviest smartphones around. The polycarbonate unibody design has its drawbacks so the battery is not user-replaceable.

The rest of the specs include NFC and wireless charging. The wireless charging supports Qi technology so it will support a wide variety of chargers and Nokia showcased some of them including standard plastic one, soft pillow charger from Fatboy and JBL's PowerUp Bluetooth wireless speaker dock that doubles up as a charger.

Camera wise, Nokia Lumia 920 comes with with a rear main 8MP camera and 1MP front one for video-calls. The rear 8.7-megapixel unit has Carl Zeiss optics and is part of Nokia's PureView brand. In this case, PureView does not include a 41-megapixel sensor like the 808 PureView, but actually Nokia claims that PureView simply stands for innovative camera features and in the case of Lumia 920, it is a "floating lens" optical image stabilization that should provide sharper photos in low-light situations.

Unfortunately, Nokia did not shed any details regarding the precise price or the availability date but did note that some markets should see it in Q4 2012.
