iPhone leads the way

More than half of American mobile subscribers are apparently irradiating their private parts with smartphones.

According to research outfit Nielsen, the smartphone share has hit 50.4 percent, up 2.6 percent over December 2011.

It is no surprise that apple is leading the way as the top manufacturer, but Android is the more popular OS, with a 48.5 percent share. Apple grabbed 32 percent of the market, while RIM ranked third with 11.6 percent. Windows Mobile and Windows Phone accounted for 4.1 and 1.7 percent respectively.

Interestingly, American women are more likely to go for a smartphone compared to their male counterparts, but that is not all.

Looking at race and ethnicity, Asians are most likely to own a smartphone, with 67.3 percent penetration. Talk about positive stereotypes. Hispanics rank second with a 57.3 percent rate, African Americans came in third with a 54.4 share, while Caucasians ranked dead last with a 44.7 share, a figure that will bring tears to the eyes of many Turner Diaries fans. Good.
