Cheaper One series smartphones

In addition to the One X and XL flagship models of the One series, HTC has also launched two affordable models, the HTC One S and One V.

The One S is pretty much the smaller, slimmer and cheaper version of the One X and is built around a 4.3-inch 540x960 AMOLED touchscreen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It packs the 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space backed by the same 2 year free 25GB Dropbox cloud storage. The dimensions are set at 130.9x65x7.95mm and it weighs 121.9g with 1,650mAh battery. This is actually the thinnest smartphone that ever came to market from HTC.

Despite the lack of the "flagship" title, HTC's One S is still a high-end smartphone and HTC went with the usual unibody desing but with a twist. The HTC One S has, what HTC calls, crystalline ceramic metal finish, and apparently you get this when you bake the aluminum in plasma, which transforms the aluminum into ceramic making it four times harder and scratch resistant.

The rest of the specs and features of the HTC S include a 8MP main snapper with f/2.0 lens, LED flash and BNI sensor, 3.5mm stereo audio interface, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11bgn WiFi with Wireless HDMI for connecting to HTC Wireless HDMI Unit, DLNA, micro-USB port, and pretty much everything else that you would expect to find on a higher-end smartphone. It will of course pack Android 4.0 ICS OS with HTC's Sense UI.

The last of the One series, the One V, is pretty much your average value/mid-range smartphone. It will be equipped with 1GHz single-core Snapdragon S2 CPU paired up with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage space. All of these chips are placed behind a 3.7-inch 480x800 Super LCD 2 touchscreen protected by Gorilla Glass. Same as the entire One series, this one also lacks the microSD card slot and will also come with 2 year free 25GB DropBox cloud storage.

The good part of the story is that even One V will feature Android 4.0 ICS out of the box backed by HTC's Sense UI. The dimensions are set at 120.3x59.7x9.24mm and it weighs 115g with 1,500mAh battery. The rest of the features include same 3.5mm stereo audio interface, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11bgn WiFi sans Wireless HDMI, microUSB, Beats Audio enhancement and 5MP main snapper with 720p video recording, LED flash, f/2.0 lens and the same BSI sensor found on the entire One series.

The One S should be pretty interesting with its €499/CHF 599 price tag. Similar to the HTC One X, this one will also hit Swisscom, Sunrise, Mobilezone and Orange in Switzerland as well as A1 Telekom Austria, H3G, T-Mobile and Orange in Austria. We expect it to have similar pricing in the rest of the Europe as well. The One V will probably be avialable on those same networks in Austria and Switzerland and the €299/CHF 349 price tag is certainly appealing.
