Major improvements to graphics performance

According to a bunch of benchmarks gathered all over the web, the A5 processor in Apple’s iPhone 4S is clocked at 800MHz and it features a lot more graphics performance than the A4.

Anand figures the 4S is nearly twice as fast as its predecessor in Javascript, with a 2222 score in SunSpider Javascript Benchmark 0.9. The iPhone 4 scores 3921, while high end Androids like Moto Droid Bionic and Samsung Galaxy S II scroe 3983 and 4038 respectively.

The 4S also dominates the Rightware BrowserMark test, with 89567 points, while Galaxy S II scores 55144. Basically the iPhone 4S ends up about 20 to 25 slower than the iPad 2, which ships with a similar processor, albeit clocked at 1GHz.

Graphics performance is vastly superior compared to Android phones with Mali 400, SGX 540 or ULP GeForce graphics. In GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt, Apple scores 73.1 fps, while Samsung Galaxy S II delivers 42.5 fps on its Mali 400 core. Scores for SGX 540 devices and Tegra 2 hover around the 20fps mark, giving iPhone 4S users something to be smug about.
