LG slashes smartphone shipment targets

LG dropped its phone shipment forecast by 36 million units at a press event on Thursday.

The 24 percent drop from 150 million to 114 million units case is rather steep and smartphones are not doing better, either. Smartphone shipment forecasts dropped about 20 percent, from 30 to 24 million.

LG managed to sell about 50 million phones in the first half of the year, including 10 million smartphones. However, growth has eluded the outfit and LG is expected to post its fifth quarterly loss thanks to weak smartphone sales.

LG’s shift to high-end Android smartphones does not appear to have done the company much good.
