Nokia marketshare continues to slide

by on22 April 2011

Under 30 percent and falling
According to latest figures, Nokia’s market share has dropped to beneath 30 percent, while its smartphone market share has slid to 26 percent.

The numbers leave very little room for optimism. The Finnish outfit used to command a 50+ percent share in the smartphone marked just a couple of years ago. Its latest arrangement with Microsoft promises to bring about some change, but then again Nokia will transition to Windows Phone 7 in its flagship products.

On the other hand, Motorola and Sony Ericsson have opted for Google’s Android OS, which is recording much higher growth than WP7. Worst yet, Nokia’s WP7 handsets are set to appear in 2012, which means that the negative trend will continue at least until the end of the year, possible even beyond.
