Dalvik engine on top of QNX is the ticket
It seems that the talk that RIM will add Android app support to the PlayBook is gaining additional momentum. The latest has a rep (said to be from RIM) proclaiming that when the company adds support for the Dalvik engine on top of the PlayBook QNX OS it will support Android apps.

When we first reported the whispers that this was something that was being considered, we thought it was nothing more than wishful thinking. Now, it seems that this news coming out of the Mobile World Congress makes the possibility much more real.

If it ends up being true, this would open a significant pool of applications for the PlayBook, which in turn could be a big deal in the device gaining momentum. While it seems that everything hinges on the adoption by RIM of the Dalvik engine, some whispers we are hearing suggest that RIM still might go in a different direction.

Ultimately, the decision could help define the platform, but we believe that despite these reports that it is actually still up in the air and a final decision has yet to be made. Stay tuned to see how this one pans out.
