Intel has told its partners that phones based on the Atom architecture won't be show up commercially at least until Q2 2012.

Intel already has some Atom driven phones that a few saw at IDF and CES, but despite the fact that these phones can end up being quiet fast, they usually eat way too much battery to compete with ARM powered devices.

Oak Trail is a 32nm part and what Intel needs to get into phones is a 22nm version of an Atom based architecture, but at this time, Intel didn’t communicate about the products that are coming after Q1 2012. One thing is sure, according to Intel current plans, you should not see any Atom based phones before at least Q2 2012.

We will keep our eyes peeled for the 22nm Oak Trail successor, but so far, we don’t even know the codename. Feel free to enlighten us in the comment section in case you do.
