There are some people with money there
According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is trying to elbow its way into the lucrative Indian market. Apparently Jobs' Mob wants to flog its expensive gear through Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices.

The plan is to bring a CDMA version of its iPhone to India next year. The discussions have apparently been ongoing for four or five months.

Apple is busy trying to sue up lots of deals with various Western companies to flog its CDMA phone as execlusive deals between the telcos wind down.

Apple might have its work cut out in India where the market is based on cheap and cheerful phones where things need to be good value to survive.
