Powered by TI’s OMAP

Texas Instruments demonstrated its Android Mobile Platform at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It’s a prototype device based on TI’s OMAP 850 processor clocked at 201 MHz. The chip also has WiFi and Bluetooth wireless, as well as OMAP3430 processor-based Zoom Mobile Development Kit from LogicPD.

The Android Mobile Platform performs well on TI’s OMAP 850 and it also looks fine. The prototype device is a fully working example with which can  browse the Web, send e-mails, check your Gmail account and make and receive calls, as we've experienced during the demonstration.

No news yet on availability, as the Android is currently released as an “early look” to developers.
