According to AndroLib, the Android Market now includes more than 50,000 applications and although it's not even close to Apple's App Store, it seems to be growing rapidly.
Google recently announced that the service featured 38,000 various applications, so it is a bit odd that the number has grown so rapidly. However, the number of Android apps offered via Android Market is growing by 8,800 apps a month.
This means that it could reach the 100,000 mark by September, provided that the trend doesn't slow down. However, it's worth noting that Apple has 185,000 apps to offer, so Google still has quite a bit of catching up to do.
