South Korea's telecommunications regulator said Wednesday
it has given approval for Apple iPhone to be sold in the country.
The Korea Communications Commission approved the sale of
the device at a meeting attended by its five commissioners, said
commission spokesman Lee Sang-hun. If you believe the US trade press South Korea has
apparently been waiting with baited breath for the Apple iPhone to show
up. However there has been little in the way of evidence for this.
The handset market is dominated by Samsung, LG and other
local manufacturers. They make their brands of phone a lot
cheaper than Apple. Apple has consistently refused to drop the price of its
iPhone in poorer countries which has resulted in it being a failure in
places like Russia where they don't seem to understand the concept of paying
more for something when you can get the same thing cheaper.
