Strange tails of Curve 8900 in Canada

Conflicting reports from Rogers concerning availability

As we told you the other day, T-Mobile Germany was the first to launch the new BlackBerry Curve 8900, which was known by the code name Javelin, and now it seems that Rogers in Canada has sort of launched the 8900, as well.

The tale kind of goes like this… apparently at some point the 8900 appeared on Sales Central and this has apparently been confirmed by several screen shots. Several reports indicate that people did, in fact, call in and order the 8900 and were, in turn, told that their order would ship in 3 to 5 days.

What makes this a bit strange is that the 8900 has disappeared from Sales Central; and the mystery goes a bit further with some sources suggesting that the 8900 has not completed acceptance testing by Rogers and no official release date has been set.

While it was rumored for some time that Rogers would be getting the 8900, it was generally thought that it would not be for at least another week or two. To top it off, many of our sources continue to insist that we will not see actual delivery of the 8900 until after the new year.

We doubt that Rogers will offer any specific clarification on the matter, as like most carriers they do not comment on unannounced products and they will wait until they officially announce the 8900 before they say anything. We think it is likely that they might announce it later this week and start taking orders, but it is anyone’s guess if they will actually deliver 8900s before the holiday.
