Apple not in touch with the corporate market space

Apple has enjoyed much success with the iPhone, so much in fact that they have launched a variety of initiatives to help the iPhone be more accepted in the enterprise and corporate market spaces.

However, it seems that with their launch of the iPhone Configuration Utility version 1.0.1 they have forgotten the biggest thing about corporate IT. This is the fact that the vast majority of enterprise networks are using Windows-based PCs and the latest version of the iPhone Configuration Utility is only available for use on Mac systems running OS X version 10.5 or later.

The concept of the iPhone Configuration Utility is good, as it allows system administrators to create standardized configuration profiles that will allow the iPhone to talk to their systems.

While a Windows version as well as some Web-related utilities were released in July as part of Apple’s enterprise support resources for the iPhone, Apple needs to continue to focus their development on utilities that will run on Windows-based systems if they want real acceptance by enterprise and corporate environments.

From what we can tell, the difference between the two versions isn’t really all that much. While we suspect that an updated version will be released for Windows at a later date, at least for now you can only get the latest version for Mac.
