First steps made on iPod Touch

The iPhone community is again at a fever pitch as a few hackers managed to reach the first step toward Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) support on an iPod Touch.

They managed to connect to a SIP server and pass the authorization hurdle, but they now need to connect the audio in / out part of the iPhone / iPod Touch to provide the ability to make real VoIP calls. SIP signalization is working and this was the tough part, but more work still has to be done.

It looks like there is a good chance that these guys will develop something for the entire community, which would be a big defeat for Nokia, which boasts of having a SIP client and VoIP on its N series.
