Codename Zante

Gizmodo has some interesting information about T-Mobile moving away from Sharp as the manufacturer of its Sidekick communcation devices. Some pretty solid information has made it online which seems to confirm that Motorola will be making the Sidekick 4 or whatever the final name of the product will be.

The Sidekick never really took off outside of the US, although it is available in other markets, such as the UK and Australia. However, the new Zante, as the Motorola devices is codenamed, looks like a huge step forward.

Danger will still supply the OS for the device, so there's no need to worry about any major changes in terms of the ease of use. Sadly it's still stuck at 2.5G connectivity with EDGE as the preffered data connection.

Other features include a 2.4in QVGA screen, a 1.3 megapixel camera, quad band GSM radio, 128MB built in memory and a Mini SD card slot for up to 2GB cards.

The new Sidekick should be available some time this quarter.

You can find some more information as well as a couple of pictures of the new Sidekick here
