Larrabee will use GDDR5 memory

Nothing really exotic, at least

We've got yet another snippet of information about Intel's upcoming Larrabee-based graphics card and we've been told that Intel will be using GDDR5 memory on these cards. We're not sure what kind of memory bus interface Intel will go for, but 256 or 512-bit sounds reasonable.

At least Intel hasn't gone for some expensive and exotic memory solution to get the kind of performance they're hoping to achieve, which should keep costs to a more reasonable level for this particular part of the card.

Intel is targeting to hit 2 Teraflops, but the question is if this will be enough by the time Larrabee actually launches, as AMD is already hitting 1.2 Teraflops with the Radeon HD 4870. Radeon HD 4870 X2 should already break 2 Teraflops. Considering that both AMD and Nvidia will have at least one or maybe even two new generations before we're expected to see retail Larrabee products, this might not sound as high as it does right now.

Time will tell what the final product will end up like, but right now it seems like Intel might not have predicted the future well enough to create a product that will be in high enough demand, but then again, Intel has a lot of marketing money and we're sure they'll throw some on Larrabee to make it look better than it might end up being.
