Platform independent multi-GPU solution

What appears to be a fairly new player, LucidLogix Technologies, has announced that they're working on a product called Hydra that will allow you to mix and match any graphics cards you might have to get a performance boost that should scale better than CrossFire and SLI.

That's some big claims for what so far has been an unknown company, and it gets better. Not only does Lucid claim that Hydra is "delivering another industry breakthrough: near-linear to above-linear performance with two, three or more graphics cards," but that this can either be done by integrating the Hydra SoC either onto any motherboard or to an add-on card.

Lucid's solution is meant to be platform independent, so it doesn't matter what CPU, chipset or graphics cards you've got, it's all just meant to work. Lucid is at the moment working on a solution for the mainstream PC market, which is suggesting that their solution will be cost effective, if nothing else.

Hydra is meant to be compatible with DirectX and should work with all applications that take advantage of a graphics card. Considering that Intel has invested in the company, Lucid might just have something coming that could end the SLI/CrossFire battle once and for all. Time will tell how well the Hydra will work, but in the meantime you can have a look at Lucid's Website for more details.
