The next generation

Nvidia is again playing it safe. We've heard that the company ordered both 55nm and 65nm wafers, but we still cannot update you on what will be Nvidia's first 55nm product.

In the past Nvidia transitioned with its entry-level parts first and then the mainstream and high-end followed. There is a chance that D10U aka GT200 might be a 55nm part, but we've also heard that Nvidia plans a G92 shrunk down to 55nm. We still have very little information, but we know that Nvidia plans to introduce some 55nm products and this will happen within the next two months.

Nvidia is obviously intimidated by the soon-to-be-launched dual chip R700 product, as Nvidia is quite aware that this product should be able to beat Geforce 9800GX2 performance; and, of course, Nvidia has to react with its new chip.

Whatever Nvidia does, they should have the 55nm products shortly, but we have a reason to believe that we are talking about entry-level rather than high-end chips.
