Nvidia is working hard to launch a new, old product branded as the GeForce 8800 GT 256MB, and the launch and availability should take place in less than two weeks' time.

XFX got an exclusive right to rat about it and the company already said it will be selling these for €149+VAT. In Germany, this card should end up at €177.31, which is still €25, more expensive than the Radeon HD 3850 256MB. We are sure that some of the Radeon HD 3850 256MB cards will drop even further in price before the Christmas shopping season really takes off, to make them a more attractive purchase.

The GeForce 8800 GT 256MB will end up significantly faster than the Radon HD 3850, and there is no doubt about it.

Nvidia has a great chipset, but the eternal question is whether the company can ship enough of these chipsets to feed the market in the €150 to €350 range. Even the e-tailers/retailers who have stock of the 8800 GT are selling them for a lot more than they should, as consumers simply don’t have any choice but to buy the cards that are available.
