Help us figure out who's the target audience

HP's first curved display is coming to Europe, but we are still struggling to figure out what sort of consumer the EliteDisplay S270c is going after.

It's a 16:9 monitor, not a 21:9 ultrawide like headline grabbing models from LG and Sony. The EliteDisplay S270c sports a curved 27-inch MVA panel in 1920x1080. The brightness rating stands at 300cd/m2, static contrast is rated at 3000:1 and the response time is 8ms. The monitor features two HDMI 1.4 inputs, one of which is MHL compatible. There's a VGA port, too.

At a time when monitor manufacturers trying to come up with smaller and smaller bezels, HP is taking the retro approach, with two speakers on the sides. However, these aren't your average 1W or 2W drivers - the EliteDisplay S270c sports two 4W speakers which sounds like a nice touch.

While we're not sure 16:9 curved displays have a bright future, the EliteDisplay S270c has one thing going for it - relatively competitive pricing. European e-tailers are listing it for €380, but the MSRP appears to be €399. This is on a par with the Samsung S27D590C, which is also a 1080p 16:9 display, while 21:9 curved displays tend to carry four-digit pricing.

HP's first curved display is expected to hi retail in a couple of weeks, but as always, the trouble with all curved monitors is that they're just too expensive.
