AMD releases Catalyst 12.4 WHQL driver

Couple of new features and performance improvements


AMD has rolled out its April release of WHQL-certified Catalyst driver pack, the Catalyst 12.4. The new driver supports all graphics cards since Radeon HD 2000 series and includes AMD display driver version 8.961, Hydravision for Windows 7 and Vista, Southbridge/IXP driver and AMD Catalyst Control Center/AMD Vision Engine Control Center version 8.961.

When it comes to new features, the Catalyst 12.4 WHQL brings Windows XP support for Radeon HD 7900, 7800 and HD 7700 sereis graphics cards. It also feature new Super Sampling Anti-Allisaing Level of Detail (LOD) image enhancements that are supported on Radeon HD 7900, 7800 and HD 7700 series when application support in game Anti-Aliasing, significant performance enhancements in Morphological Anti-Aliasing (MLAA) that is supported on Radeon HD 7900, HD 7800, HD 7700, HD 6000 and HD 5000 series where MLAA now works up to 80 percent faster, as well as texture filtering quality improvements that feature a new texture filtering algorithm to increase the quality of rendered textures with no impact to performance on Radeon HD 7900, HD 7800 and HD 7700 series graphics cards.

The resolved issues lists is quite extensive and includes game titles like Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Rage, Stalker: Call of Pripyat, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and some resolved issues in Windows Media Center, AMD Steady Video, and general use of AMD graphics cards under Windows 7 OS. There are also a couple of fixes unde Windows Vista and XP OS as well.
