A new dual-Cayman flagship?
Powercolor decided to showcase yet another card based on the Cayman GPU - the dual GPU HD 6970 X2.

The new HD 6970 X2 features a non-reference, taller than standard PCB and comes strapped with a custom dual-slot/dual-fan cooler. It has a total of 3072 stream processors and works at 880MHz for each of GPUs. The card features 4GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 5500MHz and paired up with a dual 256-bit memory interface. The backplate features DVI, HDMI and two mini DisplayPort outputs.

Unfortunately, the higher-than-HD 6990 specs means that this card needs three PCI-Express power connectors, something that you don't see these days except on high-end niche products like Asus Mars II graphics card. In addition to the new HD 6970 X2, Powercolor is also working on a dual HD 6870 card as well that might be even more interesting to some buyers and could easily end up more popular than the HD 6970 X2

Powercolor didn't reveal any details regarding the price or the availabilty date, but we'll keep an eye out for this one.
