GTX 460 spotted in the wild

Could come close to the GTX 465
Nvidia’s cash cow GTX 460 is supposed to launch next month and we’re starting to see the first performance data and images all over the interweb.

Expreview has scored a few pictures of what it supposedly a GTX 460 reference board and some preliminary tests indicate that the new card will come close to the GTX 465 in terms of performance. The GF104 GPU should be quite a bit cheaper to produce than the GF100, hence the card might end up with a rather attractive price tag.

It features at 192-bit bus, 336 cores and 768MB of memory and it is clocked at 675/1350/1800MHz. Of course, you should take these specs with a grain of salt, but they’re close to what we were expecting.

The GF104 could mean a lot for Nvidia, as it would provide it with a competitive card in the lucrative performance market segment, which has been dominated by HD 5800 cards for months. However, it still remains to be seen how AMD will respond to the GTX 460. We believe that AMD has quite a bit of room for a price drop, which won’t be good news for Nvidia, but it will be great news for consumers.
