Computex 08: Looks awesome

During the Puma press conference AMD gave the audience a sneak preview of what the ATI Radeon HD 4800-series will be able to do and if this is indeed the real deal, then it's nothing short of impressive.

Both ATI and Nvidia have been talking about realistic graphics for some time, but this is the first time we've seen any kind of demo running on a graphics card which comes even close to looking realistic. AMD seems to be calling this new  technology Cinema 2.0, but we can't be sure about the name even though it was on top of one of the slides.

The first part of the demo is meant to be fully rendered on the card and it looks like someone has filmed it with their video camera and it shows a city scene. The second demo is of some kind of a robot, although this demo is a bit more static as the robot doesn't actually move, it is just rotated around, but it still looks very realistic.

The quality of our video is sadly not as good as what was shown, but it'll give you a good idea of what's coming. You can find the video here.
