After promise he never will

In one of his famous conference calls, Nvidia’s CEO has promised that he will never do a soft launch. When Jensen Huang says that something has soft launched, this means that the product has been introduced and you cannot buy it at launch time.

Jensen said this for one of ATI’s products as ATI Radeon HD 5870 launched and started shipping about a week later, but in very limited quantities. They still managed to have cards on the shelves in just a week from launch.

This is exactly the status of Fermi, Geforce GTX 480 and 470 cards. The card is soft launched as Nvidia and reviewers, us included, have wrote about the cards, and while Nvidia has lifted the press embargo, the card is still not available in etail or retail.

The availability was pushed from April 6th till April 12th and even at that day, it won’t last that long, as Nvidia simply cannot ship enough.

We just hope Nvidia's fearless leader learns that trashing the competition with such arguments is not wise and certainly not future proof, as you never know what the future holds. After all, what goes around - comes around.
