Intel on-CPU graphics still pants

Faster than GMA X4500HD, slower than GF9300

OCworkbench
has come across an interesting chart, comparing graphics performance of Intel's G4x series chipsets and Nvidia's GeForce 9300 to Intel's new CPUs with onboard graphics

The test pitted an E6550 on G41, G45 and GF 9300 boards against a similarly clocked Pentium G6950 on an H55 board. In 3DMark06 the GMA X4500 scores 1085, GMA X4500HD gets 1169 and the GF 9300 scores 1869. The new Intel graphics core manages 1560, which is plenty compared to previous Intel IGPs, but still not enough to outpace Nvidia.

However, bear in mind that the Pentium G6950's graphics core runs at 533MHz and Intel plans much faster iterations, with 700MHz clocks and faster. They could match GF 9300 performance, but this is still nothing to write home about, as GF 9300 has been around for quite a while.

In any case, less demanding consumers don't need much more anyway.
