Thanks to LN2 and Afterburner

If you think that reaching 1GHz with HD 5870 was a great overclock, you might want to take a look what can be done with some help from LN2 and additional voltage via MSI's Afterburner overclocking tool.

When those two meet you get an HD 5870 that works at a stunning 1380MHz for the core and 1350MHz for memory, which is enough to get a nice P24486 score on 3DMark Vantage. This was done by Deanzo and can be seen over at kingpincooling.com forum, and it was enough to surprise k|ngp|n himself.

As you can see from the screenshot, he used Intel's Core i7 Extreme 975 CPU working at 4785.5MHz, Asus' Rampage II Extreme X58 motherboard, MSI's HD 5870 graphics card and a steady pour of LN2.

You can find the forum thread here.
