Cripple no more

Nvidia's ION has been around for a while now, and it was recently joined by an inbred, crippled version dubbed ION LE.

The main difference between the two is the lack of DirectX 10 support on the LE version. However, it seems that it's possible to tweak vendor drivers and unlock DirectX 10 support on the LE.

According to SlashGear, the hack was successfully employed by a bloke on his HP Mini. The process is rather simple. You apparently just need to ad a proper device ID to the driver INF file, and voila, you've got DirectX 10.

Of course, the hack only makes sense if you're running Vista SP2 or Win 7, which isn't the case with most netbook/nettop users. XP lacks DirectX 10 support, so there's no point in unlocking it on XP systems.
