Let’s hope it’ll work

Sources inside Silicon Valley have said that Larrabee that Intel talks about it at least three generations old. Nvidia agrees with us on this.

The first two generations were big and hot, and they failed to meet Intel’s expectations and as the third one is about to show its face by mid-2010, there is still some hope that this time, Intel might have more luck. Third time lucky.

The rumour is that Larrabee 3 will be big and hot and that performance wise it can compete the current generation dominated by GTX295 and Radeon HD 4870 X2 dual chip cards, but since both Nvidia and ATI plan a winter refresh with new chips, Intel might be falling behind even before it launches its Larrabee 3.

Larrabee will be good for parallel processing, but mysteriously Intel tries to spread the message that Larrabee 3 might be good as GPU as well. As we already said on a number of occasions, we see many issues, especially driver related ones.
