Five different DX 10.1 GPUs

As of today, Nvidia has officially sailed into 40nm waters with no less than five different mobile GPUs. Same as AMD a while back, Nvidia has decided to role out mobile parts before trying the new manufacturing process with desktop parts.

The GTS 260M, GTS 250M, GT 240M, GT230M and G210M are the first Nvidia GPUs that are supporting DirectX 10.1. This is the same version of DirectX that Nvidia branded as unimportant back in its DX 10 days. In addition to the DX 10.1 support, three out of five new mobile GPUs feature GDDR5 memory, which is another first for Nvidia.

We already wrote about the top of the line, GTS 260M, while the next one, GTS 250M is practically the same, except for the lower clocks. The GTS 250M works at 500MHz for the core, 1250MHz for shaders, and 1,600MHz for 1GB of GDDR5 memory which is paired with a 128-bit memory interface. Both of them have the same 96 stream processors.

The GT 240M and the GT 230M have 48 "cores", both are equipped with 1GB of GDDR3 memory which is paired with a 128-bit memory interface. The GT 240M works at 550MHz for the core, 1210MHz for shaders and 800MHz for memory. The lower clocked GT 230M works at 500, 1100 and 800MHz for core, shaders and memory.

The low-end part, dubbed G210M has only 16 "cores" and comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory paired up with a 64-bit memory interface. This one works at 625MHz for the core, 1500MHz for shaders and 800MHz for memory.

According to Nvidia, these new 40nm mobile parts have already won over 100 design wins, so we will probably see an armada of notebooks with these chips pretty soon. You can find the full list at Nvidia's web site.
