We stumbled
upon a rather interesting listing of a new ATI card, courtesy of a Czech retailer. [Update:] Meanwhile also Alternate has jumped the band-wagon.

Czech Computer is listing Sapphire's HD 4730 (11148-02-20R), with 512MB of DDR5 at 900MHz (3600MHz effective), and the list price is €83 including VAT. Obviously this is a bit too steep, but bear in mind that we're talking about a single retailer in a rather small market.

Compared to other ATI cards in the retailer's offer, the HD 4730 ends up about 30 percent pricier than an HD 4670, and around 35 percent cheaper than an HD 4850. Basically, we're looking at an EU retail price in the region of €65 to €70. At the moment you can get an HD 4670 for around €50, while the cheapest HD 4850 will set you back €90.

The HD 4730 will fill this gap nicely, and with an RV770LE with 640 stream processor running at 700MHz, and a bandwidth of 56.7GB/s, this 55nm card should offer a fair bit of performance as well. We're still not sure about the availability dates, but it shouldn't be long before it shows up at a retailer near you.

You can find the listing here and here.
