HD 4890 Atomic makes an appearance

The guys
over at Hexus.net got their hands on some pictures of the Sapphire HD 4890 Atomic card, the first one that is clocked at 1GHz for the GPU. The only drawback of such a high clock is that it needs higher voltage, so the card has one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI-Express power connector.

As this is Sapphire's Atomic card, it uses the Vapor-X cooler which is similar to the one that we had a chance to see in our Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic review. The card works at at 1,000MHz for the core and comes with 1GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 4,200MHz. The rest of the card is pretty much the same and it features two DVI and TV-out ports on the backplate.

According to the post over at Hexus.net, the card scores 12,535 marks in 3DMark06 at 1,920x1200 4xAA 16xAF, so with some additional voltage and power, Sapphire will have the fastest HD 4890 on the market, for now at least.
